Toyama-Ryu in Basel

The story of Toyama-Ryu

In 1875, when the Meiji era began in Japan, Toyama-Ryu Batto Jutsu was born. The military was trained in this sword method, as in other disciplines. Gunto Soho, or Military Sword Method, was the composition of the most effective sword techniques of the styles used by the master swordsmen living at the time. A combination of techniques from very old sword schools. Further development by the military eventually led to the establishment of the Toyama-Ryu School of Swordsmanship in 1925.

Beauty in efficiency

Swordmaster Taizaburo Nakamura Sensei, also an expert in kendo, was one of the leading exponents of the Toyama and Nekamaru Kenjutsu sword styles. Nakamura Sensei emphasized again and again that training in the use of a sharp sword and practicing test cutting (Tameshigiri) is the base for the samurai's martial arts.

The beauty of Toyama-Ryu Batto Jutsu lies in its spartan simplicity and maximum efficiency!

The style renounces artificial and theatrical positions; they are simple and efficient, practical and the fastest way to incapacitate your opponent. The immense power and impact of Toyama-Ryu Batto Jutsu shows when a well-trained swordsman can guide his sword through all kinds of materials, including metal, precisely to the target with a single blow.

The tradition graduates according to the Dan / Kyu system. Obata Toshishiro Sensei is a student of Taizaburo Nakamura Sensei and teaches Toyama-Ryu Batto Jutsu Sil in the USA, Australia and in the countries of Europe.
